In our day the God of the Holy Bible is the inconvenient truth nobody wants to acknowledge.
John MacArthur in his book Our Sufficiency in Christ talking about King David states “he always went to God because he understood God’s sovereignty and his depravity.”[A] He knew God was sufficient for everything. Come, let’s look at Psalm 19:7-9 ; a Psalm from David.
The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether.
People cry and complain about the appalling violence in society, rapes, murder, public shootings, but then whitewash it all by saying the person was “mentally unstable.” Seventy years ago it wasn’t like that. Why?
America had not rejected God. We had not outlawed prayer in schools. Unlike today a majority of families still lived under Judaeo-Christian precepts.
What can we learn from King David?
Firstly the law of the Lord is perfect. Today we want to do it “our way,” rejecting even our own laws. What has that given us? Ultra-corrupt government agencies, Black Lives Matter and Antifa wreaking havoc on our streets.
Eons ago God declared to us “for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth (Gen. 8:21 ). It is true today. No matter how good we try to be or think we are every one of us is evil. But God’s law restores the soul and gives us true freedom.
Secondly the testimony of the Lord is sure. The testimony is God’s proof, His evidence which bestows wisdom to the humble person.
Thirdly the precepts of the Lord are right. In other words God’s principles are right. Like a plumb-line shows something is true, we, therefore are made true and straight.
Fourthly the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The commands of God make us able to see the truth of all things. The lies of the world cannot deceive us.
Fifth the fear of the Lord is clean. This fear is not a fear of someone who wants to hurt or brutalize you. Rather this is a fear of respect and honor, for someone we highly esteem whom we know will cleanse us. It endures forever, we can count on it.
Lastly the judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether. The Lord never makes a bad decision. We may not always understand them; we may even think they are wrong.
But we must remember God is infinite, His mind is infinite and He knows all. We are finite beings with finite minds. Our understanding, our knowledge, and our awareness of an event are limited to the extreme.
The prophet Isaiah wrote, “The righteous man perishes, and no man takes it to heart; And devout men are taken away, while no one understands. For the righteous man is taken away from evil . . . .”
God is always righteous. He can be no other.
The rationale today is that people who do bad things are mentally unbalanced. Lawyers use this defense in court constantly, even when the perpetrator kills while shouting Allahu Akbar (god is great in Arabic).
But the fact of the matter is man is a fallen creature.
Wake up America the answer is not in politics, not in liberal touchy-feely screeching, or psychobabble drivel.
Only Christ is sufficient for YOU and ME!
